Christian Otteson is a partner at Otteson Shapiro and is the director of the firm’s financial services practice.

Christian is consistently recognized as one of the most outstanding banking lawyers in Colorado and he has been involved in some of the most noteworthy bank mergers in recent years in Colorado, Texas, and regionally. These include representing LegacyTexas Financial Group, Inc. the parent company of LegacyTexas Bank, in its $2.1 billion merger with Prosperity Bancshares, Inc. the parent company of Prosperity Bank. He also represented Guaranty Bancorp, the holding company for Guaranty Bank and Trust Company, in its $1 billion merger with and into Independent Bank Group, Inc., the holding company for Independent Bank.

Christian has lectured extensively on a variety of banking law topics, and previously served on the National Arbitration Board of the National Automated Clearing House Association. He is a Texas Business Hall of Fame Scholar.

Christian was the subject of a Denver Business Journal feature article in August, 2019, titled “Acquisition Activator.” The article discussed how Otteson Shapiro, as a boutique law firm, came to be involved in notable bank acquisitions in Texas and Colorado, how Christian successfully moved his practice from Dallas to Denver, and what his predictions are in the areas of bank acquisitions and legal trends in banking.

Christian has been named to 5280’s list of Top Lawyers in the “Banking” category every year since 2018. And in Law Week Colorado’s annual “Barrister’s Best” survey, which looks at the best of the legal world in Colorado, he has been named “Best Banking Lawyer” every year since 2016.

Christian was named to The Best Lawyers in America© 2024 for his work in Banking and Finance Law.
